Wildlife Photographer of the Year Discredited

Judges agree picture is a fake….

Further to my recent post on the claims that the last winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition had ‘fixed’ his winning shot it has now been made official that the judges have gone back on their original decision and removed the award.

No prize money has been paid and there will be no other winner awarded by default. Why they didn’t pay the prize money in the first place is beyond me and open to speculation. A bit of a sorry mess and hopefully a lesson learnt.

There’s a story there already if you ask me - you’ve hit the nail on the head I think

    Miles,
I would think it very difficult to make judgments in photograph these days. There are so many first class shots now and with the innovations, equipment etc. how can it all be judged? I am not sure why there were no runner ups in this case. It seems unfair not to give an award at all when there must have been a significant amount of entries, unless they have rewritten the rules in the middle of it all.
“A bit of a sorry mess and hopefully a lesson learnt”. Indeed!

It’s a real shame but hopefully it will deter others from trying it.
