My alternative central heating….
‘British Gas, caring for your world’…..yeah right. Well, by remarkable coincidence their (and all the others shortly) prices have just gone up in time for winter. In a stroke of genius they advertised a Q&A on Twitter with Bert Pijls their customer services director following the announcement. They asked for it and boy, they got it!
“Hi Bert, which items of furniture do you, in your humble opinion, think people should burn first this winter?” “What’d happen if an energy company hiked bills by 9.1% during longest fall in living standards since 1870 then asked for feedback?” “Should I start by throwing £10 or £20 notes on the fire this winter?” and on it went until they bailed out.
Energy prices have become a massive issue recently, there’s a lot of misinformation going about, the price of wholesale gas is the same as it was twelve months ago according to one independent energy supplier in the UK, the problem, they say is lack of competition. The energy companies are blaming the government’s green initiative and all the while people are worrying about their next bill.
So, as I sit here wearing my entire collection of military cold weather parkas I shall leave you with a photo of a special treat today courtesy of the lovely Weronika, a senior waitress at one of the hotels who made me a bowl of sour cabbage and bacon soup, a Polish speciality and bloody marvellous it was too… A bowl of sauerkraut, potatoes, carrots and beautiful Polish smoked bacon. Simple but wonderful.
