Undersea World of Jaques Cousteau

Review of Jaques Costeau on dvd….

This one might seem a bit ‘off peg’ but I recently bought the entire series of Jaques Cousteau’s Undersea World television epic on remastered dvd and it’s utterly brilliant. The series ran from the late sixties through to the mid seventies and followed Cousteau and his team of divers and scientists on their adventures aboard the ship Calypso. What is great about this is that you get to see first hand new innovations in underwater exploration as well as photography. These guys were at the forefront of it all and coupled with the fantastic retro colour it was shot in then those of a certain age will be sent straight back to some wonderful memories.

‘Jack Custard’ as he was affectionately known in the UK was a legend for young boys and girls fixated with tales of sunken treasure and strange creatures from the oceans depths. Remembered for his orange hat and pipe he had an incredible career and this brilliant dvd helps to keep the memory of his achievements alive…

My beloved father loved his programmes. I have great memories of sitting with him as a child and watching with him.

It must be fantastic to see those underwater clips in colour.

He had an amazing brain, retaining everything he saw in documentaries and I so often wish he had had the excellent education and life opportunities that he inisisted we had .
