The TIPA Awards 2008

Technical Image Press Association Awards 2008, The Winners…

The Tipa (Technical Image Press Association Awards) awards are a big thing in the world of photography. Winning the award for a new product will certainly help that particular company’s sales whilst helping the consumer make an informed choice over their next purchase.

The TIPA awards are selected by an organisation made up of the editors of twenty seven imaging publications across eleven European countries. I find them very useful and look forward to seeing who has won what in key areas.

This year Nikon has swept the boards, this must hurt Canon who will come out with guns blazing for next years awards, think the new  EOS 1000D and quite probably a new  EOS 5D.

Here’s the key results:

Best Expert DSLR Camera: Nikon D300

Best Professional DSLR :    Nikon D3

Best Professional Lens:      Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

Best Entry Level DSLR:      Sony Alpha 200

Best Superzoom Digital Camera:  Fujifilm FinePix S100FS

Best Ultra Compact Digital Camera:  Samsung NV24HD

Best Prestige Camera (compact):    Sigma DP1

Best Innovative Design:  Manfrotto ModoSteady 585

This is good news for Nikon, their D3 pro camera is winning plaudits from far and wide and talk is of an upgrade to 24 million pixels beating the Canon EOS 1DS Mark 111 with 21 million. It’s not just about the top end cameras, if you’re looking for something which does the job you want it to do without all the confusing features then TIPA is a good benchmark  to look to for quality gear without the price ticket.
