The Nut Nibbler!

Those pesky squirrels….

My woodland walks have been few and far between of late. Time off is scarce at the moment and time with my camera is all but redundant. When I do get some time off I have to make the most of it, household chores have to be observed (I look at the pile of ironing but that’s it!) so I want to be guaranteed a few decent shots.

Woods do not always accomodate the photographer, wildlife know the score. If there’s a deep part of the wood devoid of light and human access then they will be sure to find it.
Pigeons will gladly alert anything in a one hundred mile radius as to your presence and if they don’t the dog which should, according to the signs be on a lead will. That or the owner who shouts and whistles at it to stop ‘disturbing me’. No, madam, it’s you, not your dog.

My barn owl forrays have taken a distinct turn for the worse, they are proving to be very elusive at the moment so I decided on a change of scenery and went into the Limewoods instead. Here was the sight of my first ever wild English deer, probably my last too! They are beautiful woods to roam around in but wildlife can be thin on the ground. I saw this little chap in a tree far away and high above, he was nibbling away on some nuts on one of the tallest trees in the woods and I wished for two things; he was red and not grey and he was a lot closer!!

    Miles,
What a poser! It wouldn’t surprise me if he asked you to get his, ‘best side.’

I’m on a mission to get a pair of squirrels in the same shot in the woods behind me
Plenty of lone shots but never the two together

Great shot, Miles. On our daily walks, my dog (who is ALWAYS on leash) and I see squirrels all the time. They usually give a very loud cry and then disappear into their cubbies. Rod, I have yet, in all my years, to see two squirrels together. It would really be a coup if you captured such a moment,

    GDave,
He was a bloody nuisance, he picked the tree with the most shade in the whole wood!!

Thanks, I know they’re pests but they are fun to watch.

I’ve seen them just missed them with the camera once and a couple of times never had it with me - I don’t make that mistake now !
