The M62 Sucks

The agony of driving and life in general…..

Well I’m back after a week working in the English Lake District and it’s good to be home. Here’s what’s good and bad in the world of a travelling chef….

The M62: (bloody awful motorway in England)

1. Driving up and down the M62, and the M61 the A1, A1M, A590 and A46 at anytime of the day.
2. Driving down the M62 on a Friday afternoon-agony personified.
3. Having one day off in two weeks.
4. The one day off I chose saw flooding and general chaos after torrential all day rain.
5. Staying in hotel rooms-the novelty soon wears off.
6. Being stuck in a hotel room watching the rain
7. Hotel gyms-they’re just not the same.
8. Trying to read architects plans-they’re a bit different to recipe books!
9. Showing an architect my artists impression of an architects plan-humiliating.
10. Being asked by architect (with much hilarity) if my plan was to scale.
11. Annoying accents.
12. Annoying chefs-of all nationalities
13. Trying to play squash.
14. Getting fleeced by ‘trick or treaters’ as soon as I get home after five hours on the road :(

South Africa’s Garden Route:

1. Coming home
2. Not spending any money for two weeks.
3. Cheap utility bills
4. English wine-better than you might think
5. Swaledale cheese-unspectacular but pleasant all the same.
6. Oatcakes and Goji berries-healthy snacking in between meals
7. Sharing a pint with an old friend during a difficult week

As you can see my work commitments dictate a pretty poor run on ‘good things’-hope your week has and will be better.
Enjoy the weekend wherever you are
Miles

I understand Miles. I have had the worst week of the last 20 years of my life. Next week can only be better, my hope for you as well. Right now my 2 bright spots are the bottle of bourbon in front of me and the NY Giants crushing their longtime rivals tomorrow. Excuse me please - I need to drink.

    Dave,
Sorry to hear that mate, I hope things pick up for you, I’m sure they will, starting with a victory for the NY Giants-quite unlike my local soccer team who are currently bottom of the entire league-not one league-all of them :(
