The Best Band That Never Made it Big in America

They broke the mold when Thin Lizzy formed…..

More often than not I think Thin Lizzy are my favourite ever band. Phil Lynnot was one of rock’s finest ever song writers and his passing was a sad day indeed. I have been a fan of theirs for years, way back when I would babysit for a couple who had an enviable collection of Thin Lizzy and Bad Company records, I used to get a bag of crisps and a free hand on the record player for my services!

Now I know that true rockers like our very own Dave in NYC will know of Thin Lizzy but America was one country they never really cracked, one band from Ireland who certainly did crack the States, U2 have often described Lynott and the band as one of the best ever. For anyone interested you should get hold of ‘Johnny the Fox’, ‘Nighlife’, ‘Jailbreak’ and ‘Fighting’, classic albums from THE line up of Lynott, Robertson, Gorham and Downey in the mid to late Seventies.

Anyway, Thin Lizzy reformed recently and have confirmed an appearence supporting Metallica at the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park, England on the weekend of August 1st and 2nd. They could never replace Lynott as he was Thin Lizzy but they have to make a living so I’ll give them my support, in the meantime here’s a side of Thin Lizzy many don’t realise they had….

    Miles,
I really do get the feeling that Thin Lizzy are a much underappreciated part of UK rock. I’m not a massive fan of prog myself but I was submissive in my youth when my band were covering songs by Marillion and Rush. But they do have the, ‘’I didn’t know I knew so many songs by…’ factor. Quite superb.

Not as a one-upmanship at all, but here is an old, old track from my all-time favourites. I wonder if this would be a good thread for all the Collites®™ to share music that means a great deal to them?

(Could be a bad idea if Rod starts posting Pussycat Dolls videos. :) )

    Dave,
That’s great, you should search out the live Gary Moore and friends dvd of the concert they did after they unveiled his statue in Dublin.
    Quite brilliant.

    Greedydave,
We should be seeing a video of you playing ‘Market Square Heroes’ or the whole of ‘2112′ :)

Great idea though-anyone else want to share their favourite music videos here?
