Racism in England Today

iPhone diary entry…

I took this photograph because I couldn’t decide which was the more moronic, the actual vandalism and the word used or the word used in the context of the actual building. Here we are in 2012 still having to read about idiot footballers on £90,000 a week abusing fellow professionals because of their colour, Spanish and Portuguese ‘fans’ making monkey noises at players of the opposing team who happen to be black and deadbeats such as the one who picked this can of spray paint up.

Now either this person is old enough or soon to be old enough to vote, create another human life, take away a life and/or ruin another’s and the frightening thing is that we are undoubtedly paying for this person to get drunk/high and buy the spray paint whilst allowing him or her to carry out the activities above.

‘Paki’ is used by these people to describe anyone from the Indian subcontinent, not that they would know what or where that is which explains the moronic faux pas of calling a Sikh a pakistani and by their definition a muslim as well. This ‘paki’ temple is a discreet corner house in a run down part of a town, there are no flags or symbols to offend anyone, just a sign and a sign pertaining to a religeon which can proudly boast fourteen Victoria Crosses awarded to Sikh soldiers in the great wars who fought and bled to protect future generations like the one we’re stuck with now.

That’s what really makes my blood boil.

    That’s a superb piece of photojournalism !
As you say . . . it’s moronic on so many levels.

Interestingly, rather than finding it offensive I now really rather like it.
I know it sounds strange but were it up to me I’d leave it there - what could better demonstrate the mentality of the type of person responsible for it ?

    A superb and stirring image

It actually shows their ignorance on many levels; especially as 97% of people from Pakistan are actually Moslems and not Sikhs. If it was n’t so sad it would be funny because of the stupidity. But also, it is the total intolerance and lack of respect that is somewhat frightening.

As catholics, we have numerous friends in Moslem and Hindu community. My Moslem friend buys me a Christmas gift every year ! And last year , we went to The Diwali celebrations up in Bolton. I think it’s lovely. It gives a superb diversity to our lives and we relish it. A diversity that we may not have thought to embrace, had we not had these friends. Respect.

I made a very contraversial comment once on MSN …… and said in response to a racist remark, in actual fact, we are ALL descended from immigrants in the UK ..be they celts, romans et al, saxons, angles, vikings, normans, french, spanish, irish et al . None of us can claim not to be .

    I shan’t tell you the response…….

    Rod,
Thanks, in a way you sort of hope that more people around that area can see the contradiction and some good come out of it although some how I doubt it.

    Veronica,
Absolutely correct. These people have no idea about their historical roots. I am ‘mixed race’ so to speak as my mother is German. I’m proud of it too.
