Photographing Wildlife with the Canon 5D Mark Two

Wildlife photography with a Canon 5D Mark Two

Late last week so me take delivery of the new pro level dslr from Canon, the 5D Mark Two. It’s a stunning camera and once the batteries were charged I headed out into the late afternoon sun to try it out in varying light. Because of its massive ISO range which allows it to shoot in low light I headed into a wood to test it out..

Deep in the heart of Chambers Wood many a grey squirrel can be found darting around the base of trees before shooting up to the very top of them and jumping from one to another. The sight or smell of a human stops all activity in a flash, the wood becomes silent with only the noise of a broken twig underfoot to be heard until the intruder has passed. So speed and light was the test and I must admit it exceeded all of my expectations. The camera is quiet and extremely effective and although it doesn’t posess a particularly high frames per second rate compared to one or two over models it is perfect for what I need.

Here’s a little fella I caught hiding high above….

Next thing you know, you’ll be working for National Geographic as their wildlife man. Oh the places you’ll go.

    Miles,

Great photo, and the new page layout just brings it home. That 5D II looks one serious toy. If I go anywhere near ISO1600 with my little Nikon it gets noisy. Time to top-up the piggy bank, I think.
