Peregrine Falcon in Flight

Watching Peregrine Falcons in the wild….

I have been guilty recently of becoming too fixed with getting ‘the shot’ when I have been out walking and concentrating less on what is more important in my life at this moment in time and that is making the most of my limited time off. Too often my reason behind going for a walk has been to test my new camera to the max and to marvel at all of its gadgets whilst paying less and less attention to my natural surroundings.

I felt really very tired today, too tired in fact. I went out to get my ‘fix’ of the wildlife which is on my proverbial doorstep before the heavens opened and I had to return to domestic chores. Driving down a narrow country road I spotted a huge bird of prey sat on top of a mound of freshly dug earth. I pulled over knowing that it would take flight before I could get a decent shot in and so it did. I grabbed my camera and noticed that the settings were all wrong so rather than mess around adjusting them in the hope of getting a decent photo I did something which I really should do more often, I stood and watched a magnificent peregrine falcon swoop in the sky above. It was truly wonderful to watch this huge bird and I felt quite humbled in its presence.

Watching it I was fascinated by its silhouette against the blue sky, as it spread its wings the tips became more pointed and I was more taken with this than the actual detail of the falcon. I’ve posted this one photograph that I took, I’ve left it untouched by image processing because I wanted to show you what I saw and how I saw it which is the reason behind the post. All too often image manipulation takes away some of the soul of a photograph, there is nothing special about this photograph other than it captures a moment in time and an image I saw and felt glad that I had.

    Miles,
“Capturing moments in time” - those are special. When you see and recall these, they will evoke all sorts of memories. This is therefore a good photo.
Isn’t it true of most things in life that when we are fixed on doing one thing, be it the norm or when we are on a “mission”, we miss all manner of things? It is good to change our paths at times.
