New Led Zeppelin CD and DVD

Release Date for Mothership and The Song Remains The Same

Led Zeppelin are set to release a new double cd, a dvd and a rehash of the Song Remains the Same. A treat for Led Zep fans, or is it?…..

November 12th sees the release of ‘Mothership’ a new double cd with the tracks selected by the remaining band members; Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones. There is a standard 2 cd set, a deluxe 2 cd and 1 dvd set, an ultra deluxe 2 cd and 1 dvd and interestingly, a four vinyl LP edition.

As a big fan of Zeppelin I am always interested in any new releases but this one leaves me wondering. I’ve just compared the track listing to the excellent ‘Remasters’ an earlier 2 cd compilation and they’ve added two extra tracks but taken four off! Why they’ve sacrificed ‘Rain Song’, ‘Celebration Day’, ‘The Battle for Evermore’ and ‘Misty Mountain Hop’ to add ‘When the Levee Breaks’ and ‘Over the Hills and Far Away’ is beyond me.

The first Led Zeppelin live album and consequent film ‘The Song Remains the Same’ has been rereleased with the addition of extra songs which were left off the original; ‘Black Dog’, ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’, ‘The Ocean’, ‘Over the Hills and Far Away’, ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Misty Mountain Hop’.

The Song Remains the Same dvd is also being rereleased with five extra tracks.

Doubtless I shall get the live cd/dvd but having ‘Remasters’ already I see little point in buying ‘Mothership’. Rumours of a reunion and world tour have since been quashed by Robert Plant.

They certainly seem to be wringing every penny they can from it !
You’d think they’d get to the point when they have enough money and give the fans a bit of a break and some good value.

After all, it’s the fans that put them where they are now !

    Rod,
Couldn’t agree more, their last dvd and cd which was completley remastered was excellent and well put together in proper Zeppelin style. I admired them for knowing when to stop after Bonham’ death and this seems like overkill to me.
The supergroups of the 70’s should be taking a closer look at how much their cd’s and dvd’s are retailing for-can Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ really be worth £31 after all this time? Everyone has made their money (and some) from that album.
    regards
