Sam,
The top end Nikons are brilliant but I'd agree about the Canon pro lenses. All that said I've seen a few reviews were the new superfast Canon has been prefered to the D3's...it's all down to personal choice in the end.

I think that the Nikon v Canon thing gets more interesting when looking at the pro models. Intro and mid range I see little difference and reckon anyone would be happy with whatever they chose.

But the pro models. From what I have seen, Nikon are far superior with regard to noise at higher iso and therefore have a camera with more reach and versatility.

On the other hand, Canon have the L lenses......

I own a mid range Canon by the way.

Miles,
I'm thinking full frame picture quality - that's all. I think the MK III v MK IV could be the same as 5D v 7D
Best
Rod
PS, MK IVs are the single most common camera I see when I'm out and about - I kid you not

Rod,
I'd go 1D Mark1V now, word is that it's better than both the big Nikon's in terms of burst rate and image quality-wonder how the 1DS will compete to be honest.

I wouldn't buy this one but I wouldn't mind a 1DS MKIII :)

Nikon v Canon
I think it's like Mercedes v BMW - you're one or the other and it makes no difference which way you go
Cheers

Laura,
Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. I won't be buying one, it's a mid level camera so there's no point really. You make a good point, I think most of us stick with what we've always known, I certainly have with Canon.

Good news for you, Miles. . . but I'm a Nikon girl and always will be.

My old D80 gave some great shots in Italy this past. I like the big case and the sturdiness of the Nikons. Mine take a beating and keep on performing. Countless times smacked against a hard surface and still functioning beautifully - like the old Samsonite luggage commercials

Its just a camera (and a brand) that I feel comfortable with and that's ultimately what's important for any photographer.

Cheers!
