National Curry Week

Celebrating the British nation’s favourite food

It’s national curry week from 23rd to 29th November and this year is the tenth anniversary of the celebrations. To mark this culinary milestone Indian restaurants the lenght and breadth of the UK are holding record attempts at poppadom stacking! The record for the biggest popadom tower currently stands at an impressive two hundred and thirty, you’d need a few pickles and chutnety’s for that lot :)

The rules are pretty strict, the popadoms must be cooked, not held together by any means, i.e glue, stick or mango chutney (!) and remain standing, unaided for at least ten seconds. It’s a good idea especially as the previous attempts have all been made in the name of charity and this year it is run in conjunction with National Eating Out week which highlights food poverty across South Asia.

Well I for one shall resist the temptation to go for the record but I shall be posting a couple of curry recipes to mark the occasion.

Interesting! I wonder if they allow the poppadum contestants to toast the poppadums instead of frying? They come out much flatter that way - easier to stack.

Looking forward to your curry recipes, Miles!

    Sainsbury’s Madras I’m afraid.
I can’t make one as good - nor can the average Indian restaurant for that matter :(

    Rod,
I’ll have a look for some recipes for Madras curry and see what we can come up with between us.
Those Madras curries at Abdul’s Tandoori take me back a few years!

    Good old Abdul Salik
I saw him a while ago - he’s completely unchanged - curry appears to benefit the ageing process
