Mr. Steve Bell of Grasmere
I would like to thank the kind persons who have emailed me privately to confirm the sad death of Mr. Steve Bell of Williams Cafe in Grasmere, Cumbria. Steve was a tireless campaigner in the fight to prevent the name Grasmere Gingerbread being used exclusively by Sarah Nelson’s of Grasmere. He commented on this blog and emailed me to highlight his legal fight which he sadly lost to Nelson’s.
There can be no doubt that Steve was a proud man who believed in his business and the right of others to use the name on their menus and in their shops for which he received considerable support.
Steve lost his battle against depression on January 10th 2009. I should like to offer my sympathy to his wife and three children.
