Motorhead and Saxon UK Tour 2008

More noise from the boys!

My old mate and companion in all things Motorhead, Geordie has just taken an executive chef position in Manchester. “Nice one” said I and we discussed the merits of the Manchester Apollo for future concerts. We saw Motorhead play at the Apollo for their 25th anniversary tour in 2005 and agreed to return to the venue when they next played.

Spookily, three hours later I discover Motorhead have announced the dates of an extensive UK tour in 2008 with fellow British metal legends Saxon.

This is good news indeed, I saw Motorhead and Saxon play the Sporthalle in Boblingen, Germany in 1992 and they were fantastic. The evening somewhat marred by the fact that I had to miss the encore to get my train home then almost got slung off the train because I couldn’t hear the ticket collector talking to me!

Hopefully Motorhead will play some new tracks from their forthcoming album and Saxon will play ‘Wheels of Steel’ and ‘Stand Up and Be Counted’-monster tracks!

    Rod,
It is annoying, we’ve got the Engine Shed in Lincoln as well now. Luckily for me I’ve got accomodation in Manchester and Cambridge otherwise it would cost a small fortune.

wow. I saw Motorhead in college - 1987 in Syracuse NY. “I got mine” and “train kept a rollin” are both on heavy rotation on my ipod. I’ll have to see if they have any plans for a US tour.

    Dave,
Enough respect!! I love ‘I got mine’ but for me ’shine’ is the greatest. I’ve had a look to see if they are touring in the US and there is talk of them doing something with Black Sabbath/Ronnie James Dio and Judas Priest.
Will let you know if I hear anymore.

I need your help - I’m long Langoustines - I have no idea how to serve these, other than an asian dish my mother made. They are fresh, Scottish, full body (head and claws). I have ideas, but they never covered these in school - HELP!

I would love to see Sabbath, but not with Dio . . . . Who the hell is Saxon??? . . . . I was always more of a punk kid than metal - good God I’m old.

“I couldn’t hear the ticket collector talking to me!” heh heh Motorhead - the loudest band on Earth. I used to bring my shooting ear plugs to concerts - they all thought I was crazy then . . . . . . . . .

    Dave,
Lucky you! Langoustines are great in Asian dishes but also treated really simply works just as well. They can be cooked whole in rapidly boiling salted water for 3-4 minutes or roasted/grilled on a grill plate/barbeque or frying pan. If you are grilling them then split them in half from head to tail without going through the top shell. You can open them out flat with your fingers which helps cooking them. Roast/grill shell-side down for 3-4 minutes or so, the shells will begin to discolour but this protects the flesh from the intensity of the heat.
Served warm is ideal, pull them away from their shells and dip them in some really good mayonnaise or brush them with garlic and lemon butter just before taking them off the heat. You can fold them through a herb salad with olive oil and a little chilli. Mint, coriander/cilantro and basil all work well.
You can use these flavours with some spaghetti/linguini or risotto-langoustines are fabulous with these.
    Good luck!

    Dave,
Saxon were one of the original ‘new wave of British heavy metal’ bands of the early 80’s. Most of the band members were from the north of England and I believe the bass player lives in my home town of Grimsby. They wrote some very good songs back then and they stil enjoy moderate success in Europe. Very few of those bands ever had success in the US, Def Leppard being the biggest exception.
