Marco Pierre White-Hells Kitchen Part Two
What do we think of it so far….
I was looking forward to watching Hell’s Kitchen last night, I wanted to see the man who inspired me and a generation of chefs back in a kitchen hopefully showing us all what he does best-cook.
What I had forgotten, however was just how pointless the whole programme is. I had forgotten how annoying Angus Deayton is and that the camp Irishman from Big Brother is still alive or that a sweaty Jim Davidson would be the most famous ‘celebrity’ of them all. Worse still was that dreadful bandana, I just couldn’t take him seriously with that on.
I am trying to remember at all times that this is a television programme and is meant to entertain the public and for Marco to put himself back in the spotlight. The customers know that their meal is being cooked by ‘celebrities’, not chefs, Marco knows that too.
With that in mind we get a scene about cold scallops. The scallops are cold, the ‘customer’ complains, Marco kicks him out. Great television. Marco cannot accept criticism even though it is probably justified. If we had a complaint for serving cold scallops in the restaurant then a fresh plate would be served and the price knocked off the bill, but that doesn’t make for interesting viewing.
I shall not bother watching any more episodes, I know it shouldn’t be taken too seriously but for someone like me, who has worked in kitchens all my adult life I find the whole media circus annoying and degrading. Why not pick on another profession? Celebrity plumbing or dentistry, or perhaps Big Brother’s Brian could go on celebrity landmine clearing in Afghanistan.
Marco could make a very interesting and informative programme on cookery. He could show how cooking scallops requires skill and experience, he doesn’t need to put himself through this.
The one saving grace was his put down of Rosie Boycott, the toyboy from Blue and the token bimbo (whose talent escapes me) that and the comment about putting a pig in a suit but not being able to stop it from grunting! That is classic Marco, that’s how I like to think of him.

Miles,
As a non-professional, my sentiments entirely. I was very disappointed and failed to see the point of it all. It did nothing for MPW standing and for the rest of them, well, enough said.
Like you, I shall not watch another episode. Sad really, a missed opportunity for Marco Pierre White.

Miles,
I watched it for about thirty minutes, that was enough.
As you rightly say MPW doesn’t need to put himself through this, as a viewer I was impressed with the man himself, what a character, but sadly everything else around the main man did not work at all. That’s it really nothing much else to say about it, only that I will not be watching any more episodes.

Miles,
Such a build-up to the programme,
Such a letdown, what a pitty.
Watching it should make MPW cringe, if he can still bear to view it after making it.

Jill,
Thanks for taking time to visit the site! I know how busy you are-Bell peppers are wonderful when roasted and skinned-try them in cous cous or risotto.

Firstly,
I think MPW did the best he could given the parameters of the show.
It was obviously crap but I think he could have come across looking a lot worse.
The decision to do the show was always flawed and risky and was never going to sit well with those in his profession or his afficianados, indeed I originally blogged as much some 8 months ago
Just my 2c
Secondly,
The scallops are cold, the ‘customer’ complains, Marco kicks him out
It was actually a chilled asparagus starter and meant to be cold.
That guy could well have been a plant as well, who knows.
I too will not be bothering with it again, life’s too short !
