Word has it that Led Zeppelin founder/guitarist Jimmy Page is to play the band’s second best known song ‘Whole Lotta Love’ at the closing ceremony for the Beijing Olympics. Looking forward to seeing messers Page and Plant again? Well, hard luck because Robert Plant has been replaced with a certain Leona Lewis!

If that isn’t cheesy enough David Beckham, worldwide superstar, style icon and occasional footballer (soccer) will receive the proverbial baton for the London 2012 Olympics. According to reports he will arrive in a double decker bus and kick a football into the crowd. Now if he wanted to be really English he would have kicked the football AT the bus, boarded said vehicle intoxicated and abused the passengers!
It’s not been a bad event for us Brits. We are beating the Australians, French and Germans in the gold medal table which is very good news as I have six chefs from these countries working for me. I have now taken a vested interest in any event we might be remotely good at only to drop it like a hot brick should we lose. Poking fun at my staff is an uplifting excercise which I like to partake in at every opportunity. Obviously if results go against me then I simply ban all talking in the kitchen and impose a carpet ban on reporting. A bit like the Chinese really

I was loving it all until the Brits were disqualified in the 4×4 100 relay…. gold was there for the taking. It’s always a nail biting thing watching our team attempt to get the baton round the track…. how often do they practise I wonder, obviously not enough. At one point I was convinced that the Lincolnshire WI team would have made it through to the final simply by trotting over the line with baton and a plate of iced buns
