How to Beat the Winter Blues

Doom and gloom in December

If you are reading this in England then you are probably watching the wind and rain hammer away at your window during those precious few hours called daylight. The English are masters at feeling miserable, the weather doesn’t help but then we still insist on being different with our daylight hours than everyone else. Quite why we still think it a good idea to come home from work at four o’clock in the dark I do not know.

There will be a day in early January when there is nothing newsworthy to broadcast and the annual story about a particular day being the most depressing of the year comes out. The evidence for this singular date is based on; a. It’s just after Christmas b. nobody has any money left c. It is cold and d. most people are returning to work. Thank God we have people to figure that out for us.

Admittedly this is my least favourite month of the year bar none, I count the days until the first of January when some sense of normality is resumed. December to me is all about excess, people buy and eat too much, worry about how much they have spent on someone, how much their credit card will be etc, with much of it brought on by our own doing.

So here’s a few ideas; 1.spend less, save more 2. If your friends judge you on what you’ve spent, ditch them. 3. Don’t go on holiday in August, wait until January. 4. Eat less and excercise more. 5. Avoid car parks in December.

That’s it! So for all those who are feeling a little hysterical, here’s a picture of somewhere else:
