21 again!!
A quick happy birthday message to one of my regular contributors, Annie Flinn in California.
Have a great day Annie, from all of us @ milescollins.com.

Annie,
Happy Birthday to you from cold old England. The Nean household will raise a glass of something (suitable in Lent) to your good health. Here is wishing you a great gardening year - it keeps us young and down to earth

Hello Everyone!!
What a surprise to “tune in” to Miles’ site and to find such wonderful greetings. I feel quite overwhelmed by the gesture, and want to thank each of you for helping to make my day something special!!! It is so nice to be remembered, especially by people I am coming to feel are my friends.
And now I am off to take my medicine so the old Mr. Athur Itis doesn’t ruin the day and head off his efforts to make me feel old.
Cheers and thank you all.
Carpe diem!
Annie

Annie,
A pleasure, forget ‘Super Tuesday’ it’s ‘Super Wednesday’ in California! I’ve had enough of Barack and Hillary already and I don’t even live there! It’s enough to turn you to drink

Oh but Hill and Obam keep life so interesting. Life in America has been so dull with the Bush Empire.

Annie,
I have just spotted this. Belated “Happy Birthday”. I hope that you have had a great day and that the exitement of that together with the voting, have not proved too much for you.

To All Well-Wishers,
As is true with most of my birthdays, I get to keep celebrating it over a few weeks. Combining busy work schedules, college mid-terms, and impending moves allows people the opportunity to send wishes when they may—and I love it.
I decided I would make a week of it by going to a new movie each day. So far I have seen “Atonement” and “Michael Clayton.” Today will probably be total escapism in the form of “National Treasure-The Book of Secrets.” I am about to prowl through the listings to see what opens today, just in case something new catches my fancy. I have accomplished no work around the house or garden, but have nearly eaten my weight in popcorn. Does life get any better?
February 8, 2008 @ 6:22 pm
Annie,
Popcorn and movies every day… no work, sounds like a dream
enjoy it and let us know what you thought of the films.

Annie,
I bet you did not realise whilst watching Atonement that a great scene was filmed in Great Grimsby, on the old fish docks!
I have not seen the film yet but have read the book and don’t know how the film compares.
Carry on celebrating and carpe diem

To All Potential Film Watchers,
“Atonement” is a story about imagination, love, and trying to make things right once they have gone horribly wrong. This is not a film to watch when you lack concentration, which I find to be a plus. It requires one to engage with the film and its characters, while being patient with a certain amount of ambiguity. The actress who plays young Briony at age 13 is talented beyond her years. It was also a joy to watch Vanessa Redgrave, who can do more with her face and eyes than most actresses can do with their entire physical range. If you are a fan of films such as “Rambo,” or “American Pie,” I suggest you skip this film; its beauty and craft will be lost on you.

Annie,
One of my favourite films in recent years is Belleville Rendezvous. An arty animation that won awards, it’s quite unlike any other film I’ve ever seen and well worth watching.

I have seen posters and an ocassional blurb about this film, and I shall try to track it down. Thank heaven for Amazon.com to order DVDs. By the way, I just bought a new Blu-Ray DVD player that features ultra high definition picture quality. You see, I am a terrible techophile, and can’t resist the latest toy, whether it is my iPod, the SatNAv system in my car, or the PDA that keeps all my addresses at the ready. My son is one of the generation who cannot remember a time when there wasn’t a computer in the house, and can rattle off the newest techno-developments as though they were good friends of his. Though I am “old school” about some things (I write with a fountain pen, and attach sealing wax to my letters, and keep my spirits in crystal decanters), the technology fascinates me. I do draw the line at cell phones used in restaurants by the “patrons.” I find the ring-tones, and the ensuing conversations to be a jarring interruption of my expereince in a restaurant. If I had my way, I would ban them from such establishments!!!

Annie,
I too like to use sealing wax, mine are all kinds of colours and I regularly set fire to my letters unintentionally! My grandfather gave me a seal many years ago and I love it and hand made paper and raffia for tying parcels.
