Gordon Ramsay in Prague

Ramsay opens new Maze restaurant…

Gordon Ramsay along with Jason Atherton has opened a new restaurant in the Hilton Prague Old Town Hotel, Prague. This is the third restaurant to open under the Maze restaurant concept headed by Atherton.

The original Maze in London caused a stir as it broke away from traditional Ramsay orientated restaurants with smaller tapas style dishes allowing the diner to ‘pick and mix’ at will.

Jason Atherton made his name as the first British chef to work at the legendary El Bulli restaurant in Spain before opening Ramsay’s first restaurant on foreign soil; the Hilton on the Creek, Dubai. Maze has since opened in New York and there is talk of a fourth opening in Paris in the near future.

Ramsay himself is opening restaurants at a rate of knots, in the michelin star stakes he has lost way to Alain Ducasse and Joel Robuchon but with another Angela Hartnett restaurant due to open in Mayfair and Trianon Palace in Paris he could soon see himself back up there. It will be interesting to see how he is received in Paris, the French media don’t take kindly to Johnny Foreigner stepping on their haute cuisine shoes so he’ll either sink or swim, simply staying afloat won’t be enough for Ramsay.

His recent venture into the world of gastro pubs will be one to watch, expect to see a book on traditional English food before too long! I would like to see him take up the mantle of pub food and run with it, a lot of these ‘pubs’ need a bit of a reality check to say the least and judging by the menus I have seen of his new pubs in London he is on the right tracks.

If you live in England and want to jet off somewhere to escape Mr Ramsay then don’t fly from Heathrow-he’s opening a restaurant there as well!!

much as I’ve had enough of the man I have to admire his business success.
He certainly is squeezing every last drop out of the ‘brand’.
I am still surprised there has been no real backlash against him - as seems traditional with success here.

    Rod,
He’s really going for it, no question. Now I know why I can’t get any staff-he’s got them all!
