So the football season has started…keep your hair on!

Football, love it or loathe it you cannot deny it stirs passion in millions of people across the globe and, for many is the high point of their working week. Here in England football is the number one sport, the Premier league is televised to a global audience and wherever you go there is an image to remind you of ‘back home’. I remember a taxi driver in Singapore who, upon asking me if I wanted to go to the Manchester United superstore being perplexed when I said no. I gave two reasons, one, I am English and could buy merchandise quite easily and second, I support Grimsby Town-that threw him! 

In my kitchen there are two footballing events which really stand out, the world cup and the European cup, agony for the girls and ecstasy for the boys. My kitchen is currently made up of English, French and German chefs and the last world cup saw the boys bet on which team would finish highest. Of the three nationalities whoever lasted longest in the competition kept their hair. Needless to say I didn’t participate and the French won-we probably lost on penalties due to Wayne Rooney having a toe nail problem or the like.

Anyway, here’s three of my boys who never welshed on their bet, all in the spirit of football. Whatever your thoughts are on the sport of kicking a bag of air about it helps make a very hard job a little easier for a lot of people and three lads from different countries and backgrounds gel together in a way they probably never would have done.
