Earth Hour 2008

Hey! Turn that Light Off-Yes You!

March 29th 2008 is World Earth Hour. For one hour between 8-9pm the World Wildlife Fund are asking people to turn their lights off in aid of climate change.

Sydney, Australia came up with the goods last year, 2.2 million people and over 2,000 businesses switched off which resulted in a 10.2% reduction in the city’s energy consumption or the equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road.

Among those taking part this year are America’s San Francisco Bay Bridge and The Sears Tower in Chicago. Closer to home and England’s famous Brighton Pier and the less famous (I’ve not heard of it but, hey!) Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth will be doing their bit.

So have a think, I do make a discerning effort to keep my electricity and gas use to a minimum anyway and shall go a step further on Saturday. Not that I shall be using tealights because the Fire Brigade advises against their use. How shall I see in the dark? I’ll use the natural light radiating from my saintly body! That or go down the pub!
