Deep Purple 30: The Best of
Editing gone mad….
Just bought the Deep Purple cd, 30: Very Best Of mainly for one reason, ‘Child in Time’ a classic track from the ‘In Rock’ album. I saw the classic Deep Purple line up play live at Knebworth many years ago and they have an incredible back catalogue of songs to choose from.
I have to say this is the worst compilation they have ever released. You may be wondering why I bought it, well it’s got ‘Burn’, ‘Woman From Tokyo’ and ‘Stormbringer’ on it for one, and second, it cost a fiver!
That aside, the first track I put on was ‘Child in Time’ because it features one of the all time great guitar solos by Ritchie Blackmore, starting off all melodic it thunders into rock anthem history and I love it.
Unfortunately for me and the rest of the record buying public a certain Nigel Reeve has obviously never heard the track before editing this compilation. Why? because the exact nano second at which Mr Blackmore goes into overdrive they fade it out!
What a liberty, don’t bother buying it even if it is a fiver, get ‘Deepest Purple’ instead, now that’s a compilation. Just ask my brother, I bought him a copy about twenty five years ago!

Miles
serves you right for bargain hunting
I still remember getting the record and the influence it had on me.
That black and white Fender Stratocaster - awesome !
I think I’ll have a revival - you’ve put me in the mood - Deep Purple will be playing all day, I also think I’ll learn a copule of their tracks and play along.
Thanks for the memory and the tip off
