Bateman’s Combined Harvest Beer
Another gem from the Bateman’s Brewery
It’s around this time of year that I am reminded of my childhood school days and in particular the celebration of harvest. It was a Christian thing which I didn’t really get, I probably wanted to be a buddhist knowing me but I remember it best for bringing in tins of food to place under our displays of crayon drawings and toy sheep. Hymns would be sang which I hated with an unreserved passion and then the food would be gathered up by a bunch of teachers whom our parents trusted to pass on to charitable causes. I’m sure the tins of Spam and corned beef went to the homeless but the eternal cynic in me wonders about the rest.
Now that I am in my mid twenties, or there about’s, I find myself drawn once again to the spirit of harvest celebration and feel duty bound to pass on the word, the word according to George Bateman and Sons. Oh yes, I have had the good fortune to knock back a bottle of their premium multigrain beer, nicely chilled and a welcome foil to some bread and cheese. Bateman’s are to Lincolnshire what Budweiser is to the States, 4.7% of golden liquid made from malted oats, malted rye and malted wheat which comes together in spectacular form.
Don’t just take my word for it, they’ve won a gold medal at the International Beer and Cider awards and the Best Pale Ale award for 2007 so it’s serious stuff. Thinking about it, how often do you see pale ale advertised anywhere? It seemed far more popular when I was a boy in the 70’s 80’s and I had more or less forgotten about it.
So if you see a bottle, give it a go. It makes a really good drink to go with a ploughman’s or a cold meat salad. Nice one Bateman’s.

Note: This is a totally independant review. I receive no reward from Bateman’s for promoting their product. I do it because a. It’s very good and b. it’s local to where I live-in that order.

Bateman’s are to Lincolnshire what Budweiser is to the States ?????
But it sounds like Bateman’s is good, and Budweiser is, um, not so good. Fortunately we have many many good “craft brews” (the currently preferred term here in the US) so we don’t have to drink Bud.
After reading this, I found a press release saying that Bateman’s Combined Harvest is now available in the US. I’ll look for it.

Entangled,
Sorry about that but that is all we get to see over here and it’s a pity. I hope you can find Bateman’s over in the US, I know they were looking at exporting to you so fingers crossed you might have a taste of Lincolnshire before too long
