A Review of Concepts of Nature by Andy Rouse

The new book by wildlife photographer Andy Rouse

Just taken delivery of ‘Concepts of Nature’ an incredible portfolio of the work of wildlife photographer extraordinaire, Andy Rouse. Right up there with the very best, Andy has produced some incredible images over the years and his new book is full of not only great shots but the stories and technical info behind them.

I am sure this book would appeal to a wide audience, the photographs are of the quality that anyone would admire whilst the subject matter grabs the imagination and reminds you just how amazing the natural world actually is.

The book details Andy’s travels around the world, he takes you from the plains of Africa with zebra’s, elephants, tigers and leopards to the bitter cold of Antartica with a turn of the page. Closer to his English home he captures brilliantly the magnificent kingfisher, red squirrel, march hare and barn owl.

But it is his description of photographing the golden eagle which makes the book worth every penny and gives the reader an insight into the dedication of the wildlife photographer:

“Sitting in a hide from five in the morning until five at night, hardly daring to move for fear of being heard and in temperatures as low as -20 degrees C, requires some dedication. But the price to see a golden eagle was worth almost any amount of suffering. A few minutes spent in the company of such a magnificent predator can fulfil a lifetime of dreams. I spent a total of five days waiting for this moment, and it came in the middle of a snowstorm…”

If you buy one book this year make it this one, the world needs people like Andy Rouse to document the plight of the world’s wildlife and the daily struggle it faces through our relentless pursuit of ravaging the land for all it is worth.
