A Guide to Usselby Plantation near Market Rasen
Information and a visitors guide to a quiet haven in Lincolnshire…
Driving along the A46 between Lincoln and Grimsby there is a turn for Walesby. Take it and follow the road until you come across a sign on the right hand side for Usselby Plantation. Park the car and have a wander…..

Pond at Usselby Plantation
If, like Google you’ve never heard of this place then I would recommend it as a short and pleasant diversion on your travels. The walk centers around a large pond bordered by pine and birch trees. A group of ducks were looking for a way through the ice when I visited but I can imagine this will be home to a number of birds in the summer months given its lack of publicity.

Usselby Plantation in Lincolnshire
Probably best described as a nice ‘leg stretcher’ it will definately be worth revisiting to see the wild plants and insects this plantation attracts. The beauty of this place is that it faces another, much larger wooded area called Market Rasen Plantation so all is certainly not lost should you be making a special journey.

Historically the area was known for its prisoner of war camp circa 1945 with its base camp known as Usselby Camp.

Miles,
Spectacular photos. Absolutely beautiful, the lighting is amazing.
Just checking in as you’ve (Heathrow) been on our news nonstop the past few hours. Hope all is well. We are all in this together.

Melissa,
Thanks, it is a wonderful spot. As for Heathrow, it sounds like three drunk morons if you are talking about the plane. If you mean the flight cancellatons because of the snow then it’s on our news 24/7
